Hobby Finder is a mobile app concept designed to help people discover, track, and engage with new hobbies based on their interests, availability, and goals. The idea came from noticing how overwhelming it can be for people to choose a hobby that fits their lifestyle, especially when they don’t know where to start.
Problem
Many people want to explore new hobbies, but they struggle with:
Choice overload — endless options with no guidance on what fits them best.
Time constraints — difficulty finding hobbies that align with their schedules.
Motivation — lack of tools to stay consistent or track progress.
Goal
To create a user-friendly platform that recommends personalized hobbies, provides resources to get started, and encourages users to build lasting habits through reminders and progress tracking.
Process
1. Research & Discovery
Conducted user interviews with 10 participants who expressed frustration with finding fulfilling hobbies.
Identified a key insight: users wanted quick, tailored suggestions rather than generic lists.
2. Defining User Personas
Created two main personas:
Busy Professional: Limited time, wants short, stress-relieving hobbies.
Student/Explorer: Wants to try new experiences and track progress.
3. Ideation & Wireframing
Sketched early concepts for hobby recommendation flows.
Prioritized simplicity and personalization — the app asks 3–5 quick questions before suggesting hobbies.
4. Prototyping
Built mid- to high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, focusing on clean visual hierarchy and approachable tone.
Key features:
Hobby Quiz → generates tailored recommendations
Hobby Tracker → progress logging and streaks
Resource Library → tutorials, guides, and communities
5. Usability Testing
Tested prototypes with 6 participants.
Iterations included:
Simplifying the quiz flow from 10 to 5 questions (users felt it dragged).
Adding a “difficulty level” filter so users could choose beginner-friendly hobbies.
Solution
The final design delivers a streamlined, personalized experience:
Onboarding Quiz: Quickly matches users with hobbies suited to their goals and time availability.
Interactive Tracker: Encourages habit-building with streaks and reminders.
Resource Hub: Offers videos, articles, and groups to support engagement.
Impact & Learnings
Participants reported feeling more confident about picking hobbies with guidance.
The visual system — bright, approachable colors and clean typography — reinforced the app’s friendly, inspiring vibe.
Learned the importance of balancing discovery with simplicity: users want curated suggestions, not exhaustive lists.
